Winston Churchill School

Construction of a New Performing Arts and Drama Space
New kitchen and dining hall involving demolition, new build of an educational/community building, and a similar residential environment.

The school continued to operate during building works. Once completed, it included innovative technology, at the recommendation and expertise of Stamfords, including: Sound, Lighting and Video (AV) systems, LED Screens, connecting handheld and remote cameras, surround sound, wireless, ceiling microphones, lighting consoles, rigging systems, drape sections, acoustic panelling, and mobile rack desk.
Challange: The ground search provided to Stamfords did not show multiple services underground.
Solution: To address this, Stamfords employed a specialist to undertake a survey to establish if there were any further services and the location of these. Once established, Stamfords worked carefully around these services and re-routed the services where necessary.
Challange: During the works, Stamfords discovered that the below-ground drawings provided were not accurate. As a result, mains water pipes were damaged upon excavation.
Solution: To address this, Stamford immediately turned the water mains off and sought to rectify it immediately. Within 4 hours, Stamfords repaired the damaged pipe, keeping the school in operation.
Challange: Asbestos was found on site following demolition. On discovery, work ceased immediately.
Solution: Stamfords had the board analysed by a specialist and had the test expedited, which came back positive within 24 hours. Stamfords served 14 days’ notice on the HSE and utilised the specialists to remove it in accordance with the relevant legislation
Despite discovering asbestos and the ongoing pandemic and Ukraine war, supply chain issues, the project remained on budget and on time.
The school continued to operate as normal and there were no complaints about noise or disruption.
The client was delighted with the work and asked Stamford to complete additional work beyond the original project scope.
Once completed, the project was set to improve students’ academic, social, and emotional development with high-quality and state-of-the-art technology and equipment.
